Taxi from Krabi Airport to Khao Lak
Khao Lak is a long, laid-back coast north of Phuket. The beaches are quiet, the hotels are spread out, and it is the base for boat trips to the Similan Islands. The drive follows the main road north through Phang Nga province, and a private car is a comfortable alternative to changing buses.
About Khao Lak
Khao Lak means Main Mountain: sailors used the peak as a landmark. It lies in Phang Nga province, about 60 km north of Phuket, with roughly 25 km of public beach including Bang Niang, Khuk Khak and Cape Pakarang. Artefacts about 1,400 years old show that a trading town called Takola stood here on the Maritime Silk Route.
Khao Lak is also the departure point for diving trips to the Similan Islands, and Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park surrounds the hills behind the coast. The 2004 tsunami hit this coast hard, and Police Boat 813, carried 1.25 km inland, is preserved as a memorial.
The ride
