About Koh Lanta
Ko Lanta District was established in December 1901 and includes Ko Lanta Yai, Ko Lanta Noi and many smaller islands. Mu Ko Lanta National Park, set up in 1990, covers 52 of them. The Siri Lanta Bridge, which opened in 2016, links Ko Lanta Noi with the main island, Ko Lanta Yai. Buddhists, Thai-Chinese, Muslims and Chao Le, the sea people, live side by side, and the majority of the rural population is Muslim.
Saladan is the village at the northern tip of Ko Lanta Yai, with the main pier, shops, restaurants and small hotels. It is the first place you reach when you cross the island, so it is the right choice for hotels in the north. The west coast beaches start a short drive south.
The ride
The road from Krabi Airport is about 75 km, and the trip takes around 2 hours 30 minutes including the car ferry to Ko Lanta Noi. After the ferry, a bridge leads to Ko Lanta Yai. The ferry fee is not included in the price. The ferry does not run all night, so keep your arrival time in mind.
