About Patong, Kata and Karon
Patong, Kata and Karon are the main beach resorts on Phuket's west coast. Patong Beach is about 2.85 km long. Bangla Road is the main nightlife street of Phuket, and the Jungceylon shopping centre and the Banzaan night market are in Patong. Kata and Karon are further south, with a calmer feel and long beaches.
Western tourism arrived in Patong in the late 1980s, and Patong has become Phuket's main tourist resort. If you prefer a quieter stay, Kata and Karon give you a beach with fewer crowds. Distances between the three are short, so you can switch easily.
The ride
The ride is about 175 km and takes around 2 hours 40 minutes. The road is the same as to Phuket Town for most of the way, and then it turns west to the coast. Your driver goes to your hotel entrance in Patong, Kata or Karon.
