Taxi from Krabi to Surat Thani
Surat Thani is the main transport hub of the Gulf coast, with a railway station, a bus terminal and an airport. Most travellers pass through on the way to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. A private car saves the bus-and-van combinations and drops you where you need to be. The distance is from Krabi Airport.
About Surat Thani
Surat Thani means city of good people. King Vajiravudh gave the name in 1915, replacing Bandon, village on higher ground, and took it from the Indian city of Surat on the Tapi River. The city lies near the mouth of the Tapi on the Gulf of Thailand and is the main jumping-off point for Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan.
It is a regional centre with a railway station, a bus terminal and an airport, and an annual vegetarian festival every October. Many travellers pass through on their way to the islands, so the city is built for transit. A private car saves you the bus and van changes.
The ride
The ride from Krabi Airport is about 143 km and takes around 2 hours 25 minutes. It crosses the peninsula from the Andaman to the Gulf side. Your driver takes you to your hotel, the station, the bus terminal or the airport.
