Taxi from Krabi Airport to Phang Nga Town
Phang Nga is a modest town, and the reason people come is the bay: hundreds of limestone towers rising out of green water, with caves, mangroves and small islands. Boat trips start from piers near the town. The drive passes through hilly, green country, and a private car is a comfortable way to start a trip towards Phuket or the bay.
About Phang Nga
Phang Nga is a small provincial town between Krabi and Phuket. Most people come for the bay, not the town: Phang Nga Bay is a shallow bay of 42 islands, limestone towers and mangroves. Part of it is protected as Ao Phang Nga Marine National Park, and the bay was designated a Ramsar site, a Wetland of International Importance, on 14 August 2002.
Boat trips through the bay visit caves, mangrove channels and the island of Khao Phing Kan, known as James Bond Island because it appeared in The Man with the Golden Gun. The town has a few places to eat and stay, which makes it a practical stop between Krabi and Phuket.
The ride
The ride is 87 km and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes. It follows the main road north from Krabi into Phang Nga province. Your driver brings you to your hotel, the pier of your boat trip or the bus station.
